Have you ever felt overwhelmed by a project? It seems like such a huge undertaking you don’t know where toeat elephant start? You agonise over options, get lost in the detail and just get stuck.

If so, you’re not alone.

When you find yourself in this position, stop, step back, take a deep breath and get some perspective from a distance.

How do you eat an elephant? One chunk at a time.

Incremental steps are the key. Often you don’t need to know every step in advance.

Break the project down into smaller and smaller chunks.

Figure out what the first steps might be. Try different angles. Take action. Get moving.

You cannot steer a stationary ship.

Not everything you do will work out. Not everything will be perfect. In fact far from it.

Your job is to make incremental progress. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Keep going while keeping your eye on the main outcome.

One of two things will happen.

You’ll suddenly find you’ve reached your destination. Or you’ll find you’ve gone down a different path and ended up somewhere even better.

I know it’s a cliché but it is the journey not the destination that counts. The only sin is not taking the steps.

Life is short. Don’t live in regret.

Carpe Diem – Seize the day.
