Walking the Path

Over 2,500 years ago, the Buddha was sitting in his ashram surrounded by WalkingThePathstudents who hung onto his every word while searching for their own enlightenment.

One of these students, a young man, had been coming for years, but never put anything he learned into practice.

One evening, finding the Buddha alone, the young man approached him and asked, "Sir, I've been coming for years and seen a whole range of people.  Some of whom have reached the final stages before enlightenment, others have experienced some changes in their lives, but the vast majority, like me, have not changed at all.  Why is this so?"

The Buddha smiled and said, "Young man, while you now live here, you obviously don't come from here - where is your original home?"

"Sir, I come from Lucknow - a town 250 miles away".

"So do you ever go back?"

"Yes Sir, I go there frequently"

"So you know the path well?"

"Yes Sir, I know it perfectly."

"So if any of your friends ask you to explain how to get from here to Lucknow, you'd explain it perfectly?"

"Of course Sir.  I explain it clearly."

"And of course everyone of them actually reaches Lucknow?"

"Well Sir, no they don't.  Only the ones who walk the entire path get there."

"Young man, just as in your case, many people come to me to ask for the path to enlightenment.  And I explain it.  There's nothing to hide.  But they say, 'Wonderful idea, it's a great path.  But I won't take the trouble to walk over it.'  And if this is the case, how can they reach the goal?

The Buddha continued, "I don't carry anyone on my shoulders to the final goal.  Nobody can carry anyone else on his shoulders to the final goal.  At most, with love and compassion one can say, 'Well this is the path and this is how I walked it.  You'll have to do the work and every step you take will take you closer.  And once you've taken all the steps you'll reach the goal.'"

Funny how nothing's changed in 2,500 years.

Why is it that people believe there's a magic pill.  Just take it, go to the next seminar, buy the next product, signup for the next "we'll do it all for you program" and I'll make millions?  There's no such thing as a free lunch.  Everything you do will take blood, sweat and tears.

However, with the right coach and mentor, your path will be clearer and maybe easier.  At least you'll know the right direction to walk in.  But you still have to do the walking.

And on that note, I've been following up a number of you who downloaded the Speed Lead Kit.  Sadly, only one person actually put the stuff into action and actually sent letters asking for referrals.  And the results?  18 letters resulted in 8 referrals!

Now I don't know about you, but that's a pretty good result in my book.

You can walk the path or "just think about it".  I know which one I'm choosing.

Rashid.

P.S.  We're working on a new range of coaching and mentoring programs designed to help you walk the path.  Drop me a line if you'd like more information.
